Face to face counselling is probably the most familiar way to access counselling. Many people prefer to have the physical presence of the counsellor during sessions, finding  it reassuring and  easier to form a counselling relationship in person.

Therapy sessions take place in the centre of York, and are easily accessible. Therapy rooms are located at Millers Yard, Gillygate and Quaker Meeting House, Friargate. Please note that currently only daytime face to face appointments are available.

Online and Telephone Counselling

  • Sessions are £45 for 1 hour

  • Block booking

  • 4 sessions £160*saving £20

  • 6 sessions £240* saving £30

  • Concessionary rate £35 for students

*Payable in advance and none refundable

You may prefer to have your counselling sessions by telephone or online if you can't access face to face sessions easily. You may also prefer this if you find it difficult to find the time to get to and from the counselling venue since you can access your sessions from your own home. Also, you are not bound by having to live in the York area, you can access sessions with me from anywhere in the UK. All online counselling sessions take place over Zoom, which is a secure video conferencing site and is available to you at no extra cost.

There are many advantages to accessing your counselling remotely. However, this also means there are more things you need to consider. For example, do you have a confidential space at home where you feel safe enough from interruption or being overheard? How do you feel about not being in the same room as your counsellor? Do you feel comfortable to communicate remotely and, if you do, would you be happier for us to have sight of each other via video call, or would speaking on the phone feel more natural for you? Contact me and we can have a chat about what would be best for you. Daytime and evening appointments are available.

Email Counselling

  • Fees are £40 for one email (up to 1000 words) and one reply.

  • Block booking 4 emails and replies for £145 - saving £15 (payable in advance and none refundable)

Email therapy sessions are a different way of accessing counselling which may be preferable for some people. Some advantages are that you can write about your concerns and feelings in your own time and in a way where you can review your thoughts as you go along. The very act of writing things down can be helpful to get your thoughts in order and begin to gain some clarity, with the knowledge that you will receive a well considered, supportive, non-judgemental reply to your concerns from your therapist.

Email counselling is not suitable for everyone, but, for some people, it provides an accessible way into therapy, particularly if you don't feel comfortable talking about your difficulties, or you are a bit unsure about the counselling process. I give a full theraputic hour to reading and considering your email and deciding on the most helpful way to respond.  Sometimes, people find they only need one or two emails to feel able to go forward without any further support, but you can access email sessions as long as you feel they are useful.

You can talk to me about the possibility of arranging a counselling session by using the contact form, leaving a telephone message or sending me an email. I will get back to you as soon as I can to arrange your FREE initial 20 minute telephone consultation, where we can discuss whether you would prefer face to face, online, telephone or email counselling. We can also talk briefly about what brings you to counselling and I can explain how I will work with you, so you can decide if you want to go ahead and book a session. I can also answer any additional questions you might have and we can talk about when you would prefer your sessions to be and if you have any particular needs for those sessions. I offer daytime, evening and Saturday morning sessions, so we should be able to find something suitable for you.
