British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Registered Counsellor
Hi my name is Sue, welcome to my website. Since you are here, maybe you are considering trying counselling and wondering if it could help you. Life can be hard sometimes and we can struggle to cope with what it throws at us. We lose someone or something that we just can't replace. Our relationships can be challenging and no longer bring us the pleasure and support they used to. We can struggle with feelings of depression or anxiety that interfere with our ability to enjoy life like we used to. Perhaps we find that things from our past are impacting on our present. Sometimes we just have a feeling that something is wrong and we are not even sure what that is. I can help you to figure out what is troubling you and how you can make the changes you need to make life better for you, by providing a safe, non-judgemental place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I draw on a variety of counselling and psychological theories to help me in my work, but, whatever is troubling you, you can be sure that I will work with you in ways that feel right for you.
About Counselling
I can help you with
Depression
Depression can be extremely debilitating, robbing you of any enjoyment in life or ability to have hope for the future. It is also very common. I can help you explore and accept your feelings and discover strategies that can help you cope.
Stress and Anxiety
Stress is an unavoidable part of life and anxiety is a normal reaction to stressful events. However, sometimes those feelings can become so out of control that we feel unable to manage them effectively. Whether your stress and anxiety have specific causes you can identify, or they have become so pervasive you find it hard to unpick what is happening, I can give you space to talk through what is going on for you and how you can better deal with those feelings.
Relationships
The quality of our relationships is one of the most important factors in how satisfied we feel with our lives. When they run into problems our emotions can be confusing and difficult to understand. I can help you make sense of those feelings, take stock of where you are and make decisions moving forward.
Bereavement and Loss
The death of someone you love is one of the most painful experiences we go through and can bring up many conflicting, confusing and frightening feelings. Feelings of grief may also result form other life losses such as relationships, jobs, financial security, health or the death of a pet. Although grief is a natural process, sometimes we can find these feelings difficult to cope with. I can provide a supportive space to talk about how you are feeling and how this is affecting you.
Neurodiversity, autism, ADHD,
and dyspraxia
If you are neurodivergent, or believe you may be, aspects of life can be especially challenging. Of course, you will experience the same kinds of difficult life events that everyone does, but you may find these affect you differently or throw up additional problems. You may also be dealing with being diagnosed, or deciding whether to obtain one. I can work with you in ways which suit you and enable you to work through whatever is troubling you.
Life Changes
Life is full of change and transition. Whether expected or unexpected, these events can sometimes throw us off balance and bring up unexpected feelings. I can help you manage these changes and gain some clarity about what they mean for you.
Low Self-Esteem
Feelings of low self-worth can affect every aspect of our lives and result in not have the confidence to try new experiences or take beneficial risks. It affects our self-confidence and makes it difficult to enjoy life as we deserve to. It can also affect your mental heath, making you more prone to things like depression and not taking good care of yourself. I can help you explore these feelings, understand how they have developed and discover ways to challenge your beliefs and rebuild your self-esteem.
